Discovered attack puzzles

89 discovered attack puzzles from real games, rated 652 to 2640. Here are 18, from easiest to hardest.

A discovered attack happens when one piece moves out of the way and uncovers an attack by the piece behind it. You make two threats with one move: whatever the moving piece does, plus the attack it reveals.

Discovered attacks are among the most powerful tactics because the moving piece is free to do something dramatic, such as capture, check or threaten the queen, while the line behind it does the rest.

How to solve them: Find your own pieces that stand in front of a rook, bishop or queen aimed at something valuable. Then ask where the front piece could go with a threat of its own.
