Using Ponderchess

These terms apply to your use of Ponderchess, a chess learning, reference, and practice service based in the United States. By using the service, you agree to these terms to the extent permitted by applicable law. If you do not agree, please stop using the service.

If you are not legally able to agree to these terms on your own, use the service only with a parent or guardian who agrees on your behalf.

Learning and practice

Lessons, puzzles, computer opponents, game reviews, and reference material are provided for education and enjoyment. Engine evaluations, opponent levels, and puzzle ratings are practice aids, not official competitive ratings or guarantees of improvement.

Content and automated results may contain errors or become outdated. Use your own judgment, particularly when applying rules to an organized event, where the event’s rules and officials control.

Respectful and fair use

You may use the site for lawful personal learning and play. Do not disrupt the service, bypass access controls or rate limits, introduce malicious code, impersonate others, or use the service to violate another person’s rights.

Do not use engine assistance to cheat in games or events where outside help is prohibited. Automated access must not overload the service or circumvent its safeguards.

Content and licences

Ponderchess’s original text, design, and software are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Using the site does not transfer ownership or grant a general right to republish its content. You may link to public pages and use material as permitted by law or an applicable licence.

Open-source software, chess datasets, photographs, and other third-party material retain their respective licences. See About & credits and the source notices on individual pages. These terms do not restrict rights granted by those licences.

You retain any rights you have in material you submit. Submit only material you are entitled to use. You permit processing of that material as needed to provide the feature you request.

Your games and settings

You are responsible for keeping copies of games and other information you want to retain. Browser data can be cleared, lost, or become unavailable. Ponderchess does not promise permanent storage, backup, or synchronization of locally saved information.

The Privacy Policy describes browser storage and the information sent when features are used.

Third-party resources

Ponderchess links to external sources and uses some external services. We do not control those services or guarantee their availability or accuracy. Their terms and privacy policies apply to your use of them. References and credits do not imply endorsement or affiliation.

Availability and changes

Features may change, be paused, or be discontinued. Access may be limited to address abuse, security risks, maintenance, or legal requirements. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

To the extent permitted by law, the service is provided as available without warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability.

Responsibility and legal rights

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Ponderchess is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses resulting from use of, or inability to use, the service. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

These terms do not require arbitration, waive class-action rights, or select an exclusive court. Applicable mandatory laws and rights remain in effect.

Changes and questions

We may revise these terms as the service evolves. The date above identifies the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated on the site, with additional notice or agreement where legally required.

Questions about these terms, content permissions, or the service can be sent to contact@ponderchess.com.
